Why the glasses?

I chose an owl because it watches. Before it tries to change anything, it needs to understand what it's looking at.

In the story behind this name, that gets it into trouble. It sees problems in the place it lives and starts asking questions. The rulers want obedience. The people around it don't want to hear what might be wrong with their way of life. Neither has much use for an owl that keeps pointing things out.

So they hurt its eyes.

That's where the glasses come in. They aren't there to make the owl look clever. They help it recover the sight it once had. It has to learn to see again before it can get back to the questions.

That is the part of the story I wanted to keep in the name: an observer who has been hurt for looking, and who still wants to understand.

I want to write about religion when it is imposed on people, about the treatment of minorities, and about the questions a society gets used to not asking. Those are some of the things I'm starting with.
